Elixir – a sweetened, aromatic solution used as a vehicle for medicinal substances. Some may even call it a magical liquid that can cure illness or extend life.
Well, Quebec based LP, The Hydropothecary has just introduced a brand new product in the world of legal cannabis and Canada – Elixir No. 1.
Elixir No. 1 is a sublingual oil spray that delivers 2.5 mg of THC per pump in a subtle peppermint flavour. Each 15 ml tube of Elixir No. 1 has up to 400 mg of THC and should be good for about 150 doses or ‘pumps’. This is unlike any current oil offering from any other LP in the country. All other oils are delivered via a syringe or dropper, which means you can end up with a belly full of oil depending in your dose.
But Elixir No. 1 is an oil mist that dances lightly under your tongue and disappears sublingually in a matter of seconds. The Hydropothecary is unlike any other LP in Canada. They pride themselves on being a step ahead in the legal cannabis game and have first-class products and packaging. When my Purolator delivery arrived with my Elixir, it came bound in a box with a beautiful ribbon attached.
Inside, things just got even classier.
Under the tissue, I found a treasure of goodies. Stickers, information on the product. A really nice pen and scratch pad as well as a full-size Lindt Dark Chocolate Mint bar.
Of course, the actual spray was there too. Sealed in a bag with instructions, and inside a branded tube, the shrink wrapped spray is about the size of a travel tube of pain killers — you know the look, the kind you pick up at the check-out lane at the grocery store. But this pain killer won’t harm your liver and leaves your breath feeling refreshed.
Since I have a bit of a higher tolerance, I decided to start with 10 pumps or sprays under my tongue. That delivered about 25 mg of THC into my body. The oil dissolved quite quickly and the minty freshness is quite pleasant and seemed to last for at least 20 minutes or so.
It was about 15 minutes after the minty-ness dissipated when I started to notice the effects coming on. My mouth was getting that familiar dryness, but I also noticed the corners of my mouth starting to turn north. The gnawing pain I sometimes get in my shoulders and back after sitting at my desk all day has disappeared and there’s some very mild psychoactive effects.
The ‘high’ associated with THC can sometimes be a bit unforgiving if you take too much and are inexperienced, but I found this to be quote relaxing – almost CBD-like in effects.
The Hydropothecary has said it will be continuing the line of Elixir with a high CBD version as well as a 1:1 eventually. This freshly minted product (pardon the pun) changes the legal cannabis game in Canada and is a welcomed change from what’s currently on the market.
4.5 pumps out of 5!
